Where do you start when decorating the baby or children's room?
When you start decorating your baby's room or kids' room, it's important to find out what appeals to you in terms of interior design. Start by collecting inspiration from magazines, scour Pinterest, and follow Instagram tags like baby room decoration, nursery inspiration and nursery styling. Try to create a moodboard for yourself with interior images that appeal to you. From a mood board, you can deduce what your favourite colours and styles are. You can then choose to translate the colours and styles into a matching theme, for example:
Scandinavian nursery: light and modern
Jungle nursery: with lots of green and animals
Industrial boys room: with a lot of metal and black details
Romantic girls' room: soft tones and flowers
Natural gender neutral nursery: natural materials in quiet colours
Velvet gold for a chic girls' room: brass accessories and velvet fabrics
You can also combine your child's interests with the colours and styles from your mood board. This way, your child will feel completely at home in his/her room. If your child is a bit older, it's a good idea to involve your son or daughter in the idea of redecorating the nursery. That way, he or she can think along and get used to the idea of a new nursery.
Children's room design, the basis
Once you have the basics in place and know which way you want to go in terms of colour and design, it's time for the next step. Decide which functionalities you want to have in the room. Will it be a nursery and do you need a changing table for the baby? Does your child need a desk? How much closet space is needed? Is there enough room to play and store toys? Once you have mapped all this out, you can choose furniture that suits your style.
Children's room decoration
Once you have decided which furniture you need, you can choose matching or contrasting nursery decorations. Do you like it exuberant? Then choose lots of accessories with different materials and structures. Also use trendy toys to decorate the room. Hang a canopy above the bed, use lots of cushions and place a rug. Make it cosy with a good tipi tent in the corner and a fabric flag line along the wall. If you prefer a peaceful and tidy look, choose enough storage space and children's room accessories that are also functional, such as storage baskets. With a children's night light next to the bed and a few eye-catchers in an open wall cabinet you keep it modest yet playful.
Wall decoration for the kid's room
So, the kid's furniture is in place, the rug has been laid and the window decorations have been installed. All done! Oh no, we're not. The walls may be coloured, but we are certainly not done. Nothing is as uncozy as bare walls, whether you like exuberant or clean furnishings. Wall decoration for the nursery is aimed at children. Especially for this target group, there are all kinds of nice things to get. Hang a wall rug on the wall or some plush animal heads. Wall decorations make the room complete.
